Copperplate Calligraphy

Description:

Copperplate Calligraphy is a script style of lettering that is written using an oblique pen holder with a pointed flexible pen nib dipped into the ink.  This lettering style is based upon the script used in the 18th century for lettering such documents as the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. It has been most commonly used for lettering invitations for weddings and other formal occasions, and for addressing the envelopes.  Initially, it will be necessary to spend time learning how to work with the pen, practicing basic pen strokes, which will then be combined to create the letters.  The lower case letters will be covered before progressing to the capital letterforms and numerals.  As participants are learning the Copperplate style, there will be small projects incorporating pointed pen work.  Since the materials are not available for purchase in Tulsa, there will be a materials fee of $31.00.
